We continue our travels in the Grand Design Reflection 28RL and head from Charleston, SC, to Helen, Georgia.

Unicoi Lodge and State Park

We briefly visited Helen several years ago but didn’t really get to explore the area. This time, we decided to stay right down the road at Unicoi Lodge and State Park. This 1,000-acre park is centered around Smith Lake (also called Unicoi Lake) within the Chattahoochee National Forest.

There are several ways to stay at Unicoi Park including a lodge with hotel style rooms, cabins, glamping tents, rv sites and tent sites. Amenities at the campground include a lodge, playground, swimming area, boat launch, kayaking, hiking, biking, bath houses and a laundry area that is free of charge for guests.

The only negative thing about this state park isn’t a fault of the park, but camper carelssness. We noticed a lot of human feces (yes, feces 💩😆) all around the sewer dump station. How this happened is beyond us but it didn’t get cleaned up for a few days. Not a great thing.

Helen, Georgia and Anna Ruby Falls

We were only in the area for a few days but packed a lot in. The first day we checked out the Historic Nacoochee Village and explored Unicoi State Park. The following day we walked around Alpine Helen and grabbed some lunch. Although it was really cold that day, we wanted to make sure we walked up to Anna Ruby Falls.

To get to Anna Ruby Falls you have to drive through park of Unicoi State Park. These two parks are separate and require separate entrance fees. If you are only driving through the State Park to go to Anna Ruby Falls, you do not have to pay the state park fee. However, it is $5 per person to enter Anna Ruby Falls for anyone aged 15+. It was only a half mile hike up a saved trail to see the falls, but it is very steep. We feel it was well worth it!

After the falls, we went back to the rv to rest and walk Daisy before going back into Alpine Helen to see all of the holiday lights and decorations. It did not disappoint.

This was a cute little area with a lot to explore!
