Our Discount has expired, but we do have everything in our Amazon Store here: amzn.to/2U1XgFj…. ?

Full Disclosure: Ring sent us the alarm base kit for free to evaluate and provide this video sharing our thoughts. It should be noted that we will never endorse or promote a product we do not like, and will always give you our honest perspective. Every product we endorse, we use ourselves. We liked this one so much, we spend hundreds on add-ons.

We get asked frequently about security in our RV and if we have any kind of security system. The answer was always, “yes… but we don't like it.” And, “we're doing some research and hope to be testing a new system soon!”.

Well, the wait is over and we LOVE our new security system by Ring! Being in an RV, the primary feature that we needed but didn't have with our old system is self-monitoring

Self Monitored

Traditional home alarm systems as well as some DIY systems need to be monitored to reap the benefits of remote access and management of the system. However, to be monitored, a permanent address needs to be tied to the system for emergency dispatch, etc. Not possible when you move every week or two. Our previous system was that way, so we never armed it.

Ring can be completely self monitored with ZERO subscription to monitoring! Exactly what we needed!

Our Requirements

Besides the primary requirement of being self-monitored, we had some other requirements:

  • Wireless Components
  • Work with our Current Internet Setup
  • Door (contact) Sensors
  • Motion Sensors
  • Keypad(s)
  • 1080p Camera

Every Ring base security kit includes some combination of all of those components minus the camera. Ring also has some great additional components we decided to add

Optional Components

Once we decided Ring was the system that would work best for us, we found some other components to expand our system.

  • First Alert Z-Wave Smoke/CO Alarm – Fully integrated unit – We replaced our 2 smoke detectors and added a third.
  • Alarm Smoke & CO Listener – Used next to our Propane leak detector
  • Alarm Flood & Freeze Sensors – We got 3 to place in various locations where leaks might occur.
  • Stick Up Camera (battery powered) – To see what's going on from anywhere if an alarm is detected. Or to just check on Daisy!

Installation

Installation is super simple! Every component comes with everything needed for mounting, and most components can be mounted using screws or included 2 sided mounting tape.

We chose to mount everything with screws, so we don't risk them falling off while driving on the not-so-wonderful roads.

Complete System

With our base kit and the optional components, we have a very complete security system that we can manage from anywhere we have an internet connection! We've been using it for over a month now and really love it! We can now arm our system, knowing that we have full control and visibility when we're out exploring!
