Our last few days in the Florida Keys were filled with new adventures, but we did start the morning off at a familiar (and favorite) place. Brunch at Blue Heaven is a must for us when we stay near Key West! We love their lobster and filet Benedict, homemade banana bread and you can’t forget a slice of key lime pie!
Key West's Oldest House
We also got a private tour of Key West’s Oldest house, which was a fun treat. We never realized how large the property was until this tour (and believe it or not, it is located right on Duval Street!) You have to see this beautiful oasis for yourself to really appreciate it.
Be sure to call ahead to ensure a docent is in for a tour.
Key West Fishing Charters!
Probably our most memorable and fun experience of this year’s Keys visit was the fishing charter our friends Cathy and Sean set up. We went out on a 4-hour charter with Captain Mike Rio, owner of Key West Fishing Charters. None of us are very experienced with fishing, especially this type of fishing, but Captain Mike made it easy! He does all of the hard work for you (unless you want to do more) and even cleans and debones everything you catch! And we actually caught quite a bit!
We all caught at least one edible fish, and Sean actually hooked a Goliath Grouper! (which we had to toss back in the water) We even had a shark encounter during our charter, which was both awesome and scary.

What an awesome way to wrap up our time in the Keys! After the Keys, we head back up to the Tampa area to visit with Chad’s daughters and then take a short trip to St. Augustine to spend a few days with our friends.
